I designed and developed a modern, user-friendly website for Blood Bikes South East, Ireland’s newest out-of-hours medical transport service, founded in 2020. The goal of the project was to clearly communicate the organisation’s mission, increase public awareness, and support volunteer recruitment and donations. In addition to the website, I also designed a pull-up banner and an informative leaflet to ensure consistent branding across digital and offline materials.
About Blood Bikes South East
Blood Bikes South East is a 100% volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation providing a free out-of-hours medical transport service across the South East of Ireland. The service directly supports hospitals, laboratories, nursing homes, patients and families by transporting urgent medical items such as:
-
Blood products
-
Medical samples and test results
-
Scans, X-rays and medical records
-
Urgent medicines and medical devices
-
Human breast milk
Operating 7:00pm – 6:00am on weekdays, with 24-hour cover on weekends and public holidays, Blood Bikes South East plays a vital role in supporting frontline healthcare workers. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the organisation was heavily involved in the collection and transportation of PPE for hospitals.
The service is completely free of charge and is funded entirely by sponsors and donors, with all funds going directly back into the community.
Website Design Approach
The website was designed to be:
-
Clear and accessible, making information easy to find for hospitals, volunteers and donors
-
Mobile-friendly and responsive, ensuring usability across all devices
-
SEO-optimised, improving visibility for relevant healthcare and community search terms
-
Trust-focused, highlighting the organisation’s credibility, volunteer work and community impact
The visual style reflects professionalism, reliability and compassion — values that are central to Blood Bikes South East’s mission.
Print & Visual Materials
To support the organisation’s outreach and fundraising efforts, I also designed:
-
A pull-up banner for events, public awareness campaigns and sponsor engagement
-
An informative leaflet explaining the service, its impact and how the public can get involved
Both print materials were designed to align seamlessly with the website branding, creating a cohesive and recognisable visual identity.
Results
-
Stronger online presence for a critical healthcare service
-
Clear communication of services to hospitals, volunteers and the public
-
Consistent branding across digital and print platforms
-
Improved visibility and professionalism for a volunteer-led organisation
